Department of Medicine
Each year several dozen fourth year medical students rotate through California Pacific Medical Center for medicine electives. Our most popular rotations are sub-internships on the medical service, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Gastroenterology and Cardiology.
Students rotating through enjoy many aspects of their time here—the camaraderie of California Pacific house staff, the remarkable spectrum of cases and patients they encounter and learn from, the excellent support staff and nurses, residents’ and interns’ reports, 12:00 pm didactic conferences, the hospital’s central location and excellent views of the city.
Many of our rotating students like the community of California Pacific and the education that it has to offer so much that they choose to return for residency here.
California Pacific Medical Center is a racially and ethnically diverse hospital in one of the nicest neighborhoods in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It boasts busy transplant services (liver, kidney and heart), advanced Interventional Radiology and Cardiology, a major Stroke Center, one of the best hospitalist services on the West Coast, a busy Research Institute, and has bountiful “bread and butter” as well as “zebra” cases.
We hope that you’ll join us for a month. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with Theresa McGovern, Student Coordinator, at (415) 600-5847 or email us at cpmcstudents@sutterhealth.org if you have further questions!
