The Sutter Health/Memorial Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to training residents to become board-certified Internal Medicine physician leaders who are compassionate, collaborative, and skilled at providing the highest quality of safe, cost-conscious, and evidence-based care. In alignment with the mission of the Sponsoring Institution, Sutter Health, the program will work to enhance the well-being of the Central Valley communities we serve through a commitment to compassion and excellence in the healthcare services provided.

There are 64 residents in the Sutter Health Memorial Medical Center Internal Medicine Program, comprised of 57 categorical positions and 7 preliminary positions.

Applications for the three-year residency program must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Interviews are by invitation only.

The program will begin interviews in October 2024 for the inaugural class in July 2025.

Halfway between San Francisco and Yosemite National Park and surrounded by some of the state’s richest farmland, the growing city of Modesto sits at the very heart of California. Residents enjoy outdoor activities in Modesto's many parks—including Graceada Park, designed by John McLaren, the horticulturist who also created San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park—trails and recreational areas. Places like Dry Creek Regional Park and the Tuolumne River offer opportunities for hiking, biking, and picnicking in our amazing climate free of snow, tornados, and hurricanes. The nine months of pure sunshine make for excellent outdoor fun. Modesto's economy is diverse, with sectors like healthcare, education, manufacturing, and retail contributing to its growth. Modesto boasts a diverse population, with residents from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds contributing to its vibrant community. The city is known for its friendly atmosphere and strong sense of community.

Population: As of the most recent data available, Modesto had a population of approximately 218,000 people. It is the largest city in Stanislaus County and the 18th largest city in California.

Cost of Living: The cost of living in Modesto is generally lower than in many other cities in California, including the Bay Area. Housing costs tend to be more affordable compared to nearby metropolitan areas. (Median rent: $1,500. Median mortgage: $1,960)

Education: Modesto is served by the Modesto City Schools district, which includes numerous public elementary, middle, and high schools. Additionally, there are private and charter schools in the area. Modesto is also home to Modesto Junior College, providing higher education and vocational programs.

Demographics: Modesto has a diverse population, with residents from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The city's demographics include roughly 43% Hispanic or Latino, 41% White alone, 8% Asian, 5% African American, and other ethnic groups.
