Fellows decide on cases to be presented, with faculty guidance. During the conference, a case is introduced with supporting laboratory and radiographic studies, and the fellows provide their opinions regarding differential diagnosis and appropriate work-up. The presenting fellow provides a literature review of the topic discussed.
Endocrine Case-Based Conference
Core Curriculum Conference
The core curriculum conference consists of lectures covering core topics in the field of Endocrinology. Clinical faculty provide lectures on their areas of subspecialty expertise and guest lectures provide talks on topics ranging from “Gastroparesis” to “Thyroid Surgery”.
Fellows Training Series
The fellows meet monthly with the Program Director to cover the topics of the Fellow Training Series created by the Endocrine Society. During this session, In-Training Exam questions and answers are also reviewed, and Board Review topics are covered.
Research Conference
Bi-annually, each fellow provides a review and status of their research and quality improvement projects. This conference is designed to provide an interactive forum for the fellows to update the division regarding their projects and to receive feedback.
Journal Club
Endocrine Journal Club occurs monthly. The objective of the journal club conference is for fellows to acquire skills in critique of scientific publications, review and discuss the article with a member of the clinical faculty, and present and critique the article.
Diabetes Center Clinic Conference
This multidisciplinary conference is scheduled every Monday before morning and afternoon Diabetes Center Clinic. Attending physicians, fellows and residents review the schedule for the day with the other parts of the Diabetes Center team, which include Certified Diabetes Educators (RNs and RDs). The conference is an interactive forum for real-time case discussion and problem solving.
Pathology Conference
The fellows meet monthly with an attending pathologist to review clinical cases in which one of the fellows have been involved, and a cytologic or pathologic sample has been obtained.
Endocrine Tumor Board
Endocrine Tumor Board is held bi- monthly. This multidisciplinary conference includes participants from the Departments of Endocrinology, Pathology, Radiology, Medical Oncology, Surgery and Radiation Oncology.
UCSF Endocrine Grand Rounds
The fellows attend the weekly Endocrine Grand Rounds at the University of California, San Francisco.
Pituitary Case Conference
Quarterly case conference to discuss pituitary cases, moderated by a professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University. Fellows bring cases from their own clinical practice and are able to review imaging and other clinical details, discuss medical and surgical management options for more challenging cases, gain insights into potential institutional differences/approaches and learn from an expert’s experience and perspective.
