Welcome to Sutter’s Graduate Medical Education Program
Tomorrow’s best medicine will be shaped by today’s leading physicians, medical scholars and clinician-researchers. At Sutter, our graduate medical education (GME) programs offer learners a training experience that will prepare them to lead the field in delivering advanced, compassionate, evidence-based care to patients across the diverse communities we serve in our integrated network.
We are proud to offer residents and fellows a robust GME program that delivers cutting-edge knowledge and expertise, enabling them to stay abreast of emerging best practices for unparalleled patient care. Our training programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), with a few specialized fellowships accredited by their respective committees.
Residents and fellows at Sutter train in specialty programs including internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, psychiatry, cardiology, hematology/oncology, gastroenterology, pulmonary and critical care, transplant nephrology and more.
Our residents and fellows select elective experiences to tailor their training for individual interests, whether that be primary care, hospitalist medicine or post-residency fellowship training. They also participate in quality improvement initiatives and training in translational and clinical research.
We foster an open, welcoming environment built on a foundation committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. Sutter’s network of 23 community hospitals serves diverse communities in both urban and rural settings — from the bustling pulse of large cities to smaller centers with specialized healthcare needs. This array of training sites equips our residents and fellows with skills to care for patients with unique health concerns and multifaceted, complex social determinants of health.
Training sites across Sutter’s network include leading centers for the treatment of strokes, heart attacks, traumatic injury, acute rehab, neurodegenerative illnesses, cancer and more — representing the exceptionally high-quality care we deliver in some of the fastest-growing areas across Northern California.
Here at Sutter, you’ll train with some of the nation’s best physician-mentors who have studied and practiced at our hospitals as well as top medical institutions across the United States.
Incoming residents and fellows will have the opportunity to not only help shape world-class medical programs, but to gain clinical experience unique to our hospitals and their place in Northern California. The next phase of your medical education awaits, and we encourage you to learn more about our programs.
Sincerely,
