Training is based at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), the flagship hospital of Sutter Health, located in San Francisco, California. CPMC serves as the tertiary referral center for Sutter hospitals and clinics located throughout Northern California. A full complement of GI services include the Liver Disease and Transplant Program, the Paul May and Frank Stein Interventional Endoscopy Center and the Center for Neurogastroenterology and Motility. In addition, GI consultative care is provided by a team of faculty gastroenterologists in practice at CPMC and throughout San Francisco. Additional ambulatory endoscopy and clinic training occurs at outpatient clinic sites located within the Sutter Health system, Sutter ambulatory endoscopy centers, private offices and Highland Hospital in Oakland, California.
Our curriculum is designed to help our fellows learn the necessary knowledge, skills and personal attributes necessary for him/her to succeed in their chosen career path. Throughout the training process, every effort is made to fine tune the experience to suit each fellows’ career goals and interests. We are proud that our graduates have been highly successful at obtaining jobs in general gastroenterology and gastroenterology subspecialties in a variety of practice models, in the community and at major academic centers.
We believe that training at a community tertiary academic medical center in a world class city is a wonderfully rewarding educational experience. The population we serve is ethnically and socioeconomically diverse and clinical experiences are of great breadth and depth. Our nationally recognized faculty have a wide range of academic and practice experiences which afford the fellows a broad and real world perspective. We are confident that our fellows graduate fully prepared for the ever changing demands of the modern gastroenterologist.
