Application Process
Three residents are selected to enter the CPMC ophthalmology training program each year. Residency applicants must apply through the Central Application Service (CAS) of the SF Match. Starting with the January 2021 match, incoming residents will be required to enroll in a joint internship with the CPMC Department of Internal Medicine through the NRMP.
The Department of Ophthalmology does not review supplemental materials sent directly to us. All materials must be sent to the SF Match and will be reviewed through that service.
After we review your application, you will be notified by email if you have been selected for a fall interview. We typically offer 3 interview days that take place on Mondays in November and December.
Effective January 1, 2020, the Medical Board of California will no longer issue Postgraduate Training Authorization Letters (PTAL) to International Medical School Graduates. Therefore, it is not a requirement to apply to our program. To qualify, the medical school needs to be recognized by the Medical Board of California.
At this time, we do not sponsor J1, H1B, or other types of visas.
