The SRMC Emergency Medicine Residency Program accepts applicants through the Electronic Residency Application system (ERAS). The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). It is with recognition that the pandemic has interrupted the usual process of obtaining more than one SLOE (standard letter of evaluation). Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Completed ERAS application
- Three (3) Letters of recommendation
- One (1) SLOE – accept one EM SLOE, preferably from home institution EM rotation if the medical student has a home rotation. Will accept SLOE from away EM rotation.
- Two (2) other letters of recommendation. We encourage the medical student to request off-service recommendations in the form of the O-SLOE.
- USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 - Pass
- Military applicants–will accept 3 letters of recommendations (they do not have to be in SLOE form) from applicants who have served in the military. We recognize that these physicians may not be able to provide an up-to-date SLOE from an EM department.
- Dean’s letter
- Medical school transcript
- Personal statement
Effective January 1, 2020, the Medical Board of California will no longer issue Postgraduate Training Authorization Letters (PTAL) to International Medical School Graduates. Therefore, it is not a requirement to apply to our program. To qualify, the medical school needs to be recognized by the Medical Board of California.
At this time, we do not sponsor J1, H1B, or other types of visas.
