Cardiovascular fellows will rotate in a stepwise fashion that will ultimately prepare the fellow to assume increasing responsibility, and to understand the complexities of cardiovascular medicine. The first year will be heavy on inpatient consultation with an introduction to echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography and electrophysiology. A cardiac surgical rotation and rotation through the cardiovascular specialty clinics (Valve/CHF/Adult Congenital Heart) will round out the first year. The second year will reinforce knowledge in these same rotations and will add a rotation in the advanced heart failure service. In the third year the fellow will continue on the inpatient consult service and will have approximately half the year in electives that will tailor the educational needs based on individual aspirations. Approximately one third of the rotations will be at the Sacramento campus, and two thirds will be at the Roseville campus.
